Connections

Formaliq can be connected to an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT. Once connected, you can ask the assistant to work with your Formaliq account directly. For example, creating a template, creating a form from a template, filling out a form, generating a document from a submission, or sending a document out for signature, all without leaving your conversation with the assistant.

How it works

Every connection uses the same underlying mechanism, regardless of which assistant you're connecting: Formaliq exposes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that the assistant talks to on your behalf, after you explicitly grant it access through a standard OAuth consent screen. There is no API key to generate or copy, you authorize the connection the same way you'd approve any other third-party app.

  1. In your assistant, add Formaliq as a connector/plugin (the exact steps differ slightly by assistant, see below).
  2. You'll be redirected to Formaliq and asked to sign in, if you aren't already.
  3. You'll see a Connect screen showing what the assistant is asking to access, and which organization (and optionally which workspace) to grant it access to. Review the requested permissions and choose Allow.
  4. The assistant can now read and act on that organization's templates, forms, submissions, generated documents, and signable documents, according to the permissions you granted.

Connecting an external app requires an active paid plan on the organization you're connecting. If every organization you belong to is on the free plan, you'll be prompted to upgrade before you can continue.

Managing connections in Formaliq

Every app you've connected is listed under Settings > Connections in Formaliq. From there you can see when a connection was made, when it was last used, and disconnect it at any time. Disconnecting takes effect immediately, the assistant loses access right away, and you'll need to go through the authorization steps again if you want to reconnect it later.
